Client Agreement

By using this site, you agree to the following:

Advice Only

A lawyer may answer your question, but we cannot guarantee that you will receive an answer. Any advice that you receive on this site is free.

If a lawyer answers your question, that does not mean you are hiring them. They only help with the specific question you submit. They will not contact anyone, write letters, file papers, or go to meetings or court for you.

Deadlines and Time Limits

We are not responsible for giving answers before any deadlines, hearings, court dates, or statute of limitations.

If your legal issue has a deadline, you should keep looking for legal help right away and not wait for an answer from our volunteer lawyers.

Minnesota Law Only

The lawyer is licensed in Minnesota and will only give advice about Minnesota law. Laws may be different in other states.

Conflicts of Interest

A lawyer cannot help both sides in the same case.

We ask for the name of the other person or company involved so the lawyer can check for conflicts. If you don’t give the name, the lawyer might unknowingly be helping the other side.

If the lawyer finds a conflict, they cannot answer your question. If they answer without knowing about the conflict, they are not doing anything wrong.

By using this site, you agree not to hold the lawyer responsible for not knowing about a conflict.

Confidentiality

All volunteer lawyers who use this site can see the questions that are posted so they know which ones they may be able to answer. Even so, every volunteer is required to keep your information confidential.

They cannot share anything you submit unless you give permission. You should also keep the communications private.

See our privacy policy for more information.

Not Having a Lawyer Already

If another lawyer is already helping you with this problem, you must ask them instead. They know your situation better.

Be Honest

The lawyer can only give good advice if you are truthful. If your information isn’t accurate, the advice might be wrong.

AI Assistance

Lawyers may use AI tools to help them write their responses. Even when they use these tools, lawyers are still responsible for their work and must follow all professional rules and ethical duties.

Question Deletion

For your privacy, we delete all questions from this site, including the associated answers and documents, three months after the question is closed. Once we delete your question, we do not keep any identifying information.

You may use this site only if you accept all these terms.
